From the 28th of November to the 2nd of December 2006, the international Conference "Heritage Cities; the Contribution of Heritage to Sustainabe Development" took place in Luxor, Egypt.

LuxorThe official opening plenary of the conference drew over 450 participants to Le Meridien hotel. During the three days of presentations and discussions, scholars and urban practitioners shared their views, knowledge and experiences on the role of heritage in building sustainable urban communities.

Cities and human settlements over the past ages had formulated a clear reflection of the main characteristics of human civilization on its particular place, where inputs of such civilization were clearly remarked over planning and building of cities. The successive layers of culture and civilisations over the same location amalgamate the characteristics of each particular period to form in the end what is called an Heritage City.
