International Panel on the Territorial Dynamics of the
South of Peru
5-11 September 2016-07-28
The implementation of the hydroelectric project Majes – Siguas will have a considerable impact on the territorial dynamic of the Arequipa Region. The regional government has planned the construction of a New Town in order to welcome a population of about 250 000 individuals.
It is within this context that INTA, in partnership with the Peruvian Construction Chamber (CAPECO), the Dirección General de Políticas de Regulación en Vivienda y Urbanismo, and the Regional Government of Arequipa, has proposed the intervention of an international mission of practitioners, with a mandate to coproduce fundamental strategic options that will enable the success of a territorial project. This exercise, taking the form of an International Panel, has as a second objective to anticipate the technical responses to regional development and planning issues.

The panel lasted six days (from September 5 to 11, 2016) in Arequipa, and two restitution sessions were planned in Limo on September 12th ; the first at the Republic Congress, the second at the Housing Ministry in the presence of the Peruvian Housing Minister.
