Date: 20 February 2025 from 16:00 to 17:00: by video conference
The INTA conference kicked off a series of three meetings on Urban Health Culture on 20 February.
Helle Juul, INTA President, highlighted that the strategy focuses on how the material environment affects our physical, mental and social well-being.
The following talks will focus on mental health and physical well-being (20 March) and the role of nature in health (23 April).
Christer Larsson, former Director of Urban Planning in Malmö, presented his work on socially sustainable urban planning, inspired by Michael Marmot’s research on health inequalities. He stressed the importance of a holistic approach to architecture and urban planning, with a focus on quality of life and social cohesion. One of the main challenges is loneliness, which has serious health consequences. Crister Larsson argues that cohabitation could be part of the solution.
John Pløger focuses on spatialization, i.e. how we experience, create and give meaning to places. He emphasizes that well-being is a complex concept that depends on both physical and socio-spatial conditions.
