CABLE & WIRE FACTORY (KDAG) - VIENNA MEIDLING DISTRICT

In Dec. 1997 one of Europe’s biggest cable and wire companies the so called KDAG (Cable & Wire Factory Inc.) was shut down and some 700 people lost their job. The factory was more than simple manufacture of cables and wires. There was hardly a family in Vienna’s 12th district – the district of the factory - , who was not involved in the plant’s history. Meidling, the 12th district is called, was a classic working class area for a long time, which is now more and more changing to an average middle-class area with no special population structure.
